Gandhi: from ordinary barrister to father of nation

His one of the famous quotes

Mahatma Gandhi once said that “You can shake the world in a gentle way” and he proved so with his famous ‘Dandi March’ also known as the ‘Salt March’. He struggled hard in order to bring ‘Swaraj’. We all know him as ‘The Father of Our Nation(India)’ but do you know that he was a barrister. He had done his legal practices but this was not an easy job. In a way we can say that being barrister was not his passion. This is so because in court room it is really normal to make white black and black white which was totally against his philosophy. He struggled to become a barrister but whenever he would go to court he would mess up everything and would have to leave the courtroom.

His salt march

Once he became furious on an officer because he threw him out of the room by his peon when he tried to press his brother’s case. At that time he was warned by Pherozshah Mehta about being ‘hot blooded’ and that he would not gain anything like that. Instead he will ruin himself. ”Tell him he has yet to know life” was Mehta’s advice. This changed his life course and affected his individual self which ultimately lead to his major role in freedom struggle. A case later in South Africa made him realized that real work of a lawyer was to unite the rivalry parties and bring in peace and solution through negotiation. His experiences in the freedom struggle of South Africa inspired him to pursue ‘Satyagraha’ means to peacefully ask for your rights. He was sagacious, kind, understanding and more importantly a good leader. All of his qualities helped in gaining freedom for our nation when he returned from South Africa with victory. That’s why he is known as ‘The Father of our Nation(India).
